Not Finding Time To Meditate Everyday

Hello Peace Rebels.

I am trying to do the 42 day self-development program.

I love meditation and I wish I could do it everyday, but I have a very hectic lifestyle. I wake up everyday at 6 a.m. in the morning and I got to sleep around 12 a.m. In between I have no free time as I have to go to school and after coming back from school I have to study. There is also a lot of noise and distractions in my house throughout the day, so I cannot concentrate on the meditation.

I tried to meditate at the end of the day, but by the end of the day I am too tired and I fall asleep during meditation.

Did anyone else face problems like this? What was your solution?

Please help me out. I really want to complete this program properly. Right now, I can only meditate every few days.

Hello Maisha...

Im facing a slightly similar problem. I'm a university student and I usually wake up at 3am to do school work. I leave the house at 6.40am and get home around 7pm somewhat tired.

At night, realised that I tend to convince myself that Im too tired to meditate, even when Im not. For me its just a bad habit of laziness trying to die hard. I realised that forcing myself to meditate is detrimental and makes me not want to do it. On occasion I meditate during the day under a tree on campus - I find it quite soothing. Even with the cars and people moving and passing I mange to sit through for about 10 - 20 minutes. I do this by acknowledging the sounds I hear by naming them (car honk, laughing etc) and then I focus on the silence in between and or the wind blowing through the trees.

Otherwise its it a case of mind over matter. Have you tried showering to refresh yourself or listening to soothing music before you meditate? Or waking up an hour earlier (before everybody else) to do it?

Hi Maisha,

Am a student at my final level,It was very hectic but I had to promise my self that this is what I wanted and I was going to sacrifice for it.I came up with a schedule to guide me ,I ensured I had to do my meditation any time from 2pm to 6pm while in school. In any institution I trust there is a silent zone,I preferred sitting under a tree near our library.I had the downloadable version ,I would borrow a friend a laptop ,get my earphones do my meditation and on my way home get into a internet cafe and make my daily entries. It wasn't easy, but am glad I finished in 61 days, not my target but I did my best.

Peace.

Kind regards.

I perfectly understand. I work a lot and have a family to take care of. At night I am way too tired. Waking up one hour earlier is not an option, I do need that sleep. What I did was meditating every day, even if some days it was not a full session, maybe only 10 minutes. I finished the programme in 50+ days. Now I still struggle a lot to keep the habit. I very much look forward to other suggestions!

Peace M

Thank you all for your wonderful and insightful responses. Yesterday I tried waking up before everyone else and meditating. It was amazing, I did not feel the effects of lack of sleep at all. On the contrary, my day went by very smoothly. I think what I have to do is sacrifice 30-40 minutes of my daily sleep for this. For now, I think this is possible. But only time will tell if I can stick to this routine a lot. I know some days I will get too lazy to do it, but I hope I have enough motivation to overcome that laziness. My bus is way too noisy for me to meditate on it, but I think I can do so if I try. But I think I would rather sacrifice a bit of sleep for the sake of a meditation of higher quality. My school campus does not allow me to carry electronic devices during school hours, so I cannot meditate in school. ): Taking a shower and listening to soothing music does help me a lot in meditation. I think I will go with waking up early, because sacrificing sleep yesterday did not seem to affect me. Let me practice this for a few days and see.

Thank you again for taking time to respond to my question you wonderful people. Peace
